I can't read music, and don't really want to concentrate on that side of things. I just want to start playing some easy tunes to begin with!

Learn to read tabs. Really easy, any guitarist could show you how. Then, find some simple songs, and play along. Anything by the Ramones should do.

anything by Hal Leonard. However its better to go to a guitar shop who has a good guitar teacher. Books are easy to give up on and the motivation does not come from them.
