1877 - Mary Ann Cohen Magnin, an accomplished seamstress and lace maker, opened department store (named for husband, Isaac Magnin).
Mae Brussell (1922, Beverly Hills, California – 1988 October 3, Carmel, California) was a conspiracy theorist and radio personality.
Daughter of the prominent Wilshire Boulevard Temple Rabbi Edgar Magnin[1]. Great-granddaughter of Isaac Magnin, founder of the I. Magnin clothing stores.
In the early 1870s, Netherlands born Mary Ann Magnin and her English husband Issac settled in San Francisco. Mary Ann worried that her woodcarver would be injured at work, she opened a shop in 1876 selling fancy baby clothing and notions. Later she expanded in trousseaus. As her business grew, her exclusive clientele relied on her for the newest fashions from Paris.
At the turn of the century, Mary Ann’s four sons entered the business. John, Grover, and Sam would be associated with the store. The fourth son, Joseph would later be known for his own store (Joseph Magnin’s).
