I need only keys and wallet and I keep them in my pockets. That's all. But, of course, I am not woman.
I know it's a silly question.(but second question not entirely silly)

Most women need purses to carry feminine products, keys, money / wallet, make-up, cell phone, and several other things depending on the woman's age. Older women might need extra items for their kids while younger women might have an ipod maybe and lots and lots of extra make up for touch ups before meeting a guy. The purse could be considered a symbol of femininity but there are man purses and depending on the kind of purse a women is carrying (simple black purse or pink Gucci with key chains and other dangles) the purse is more or less feminine.

Normally (though not for some) women's clothing is a bit tighter than men's, thus making it less attractive to stick something in your pocket. I know most guys aren't going to be turned on by a girl with a huge bulgy lump on her thigh or butt. Normally we have a lot more stuff to carry around as well. What do guys have? Keys, wallet, and that's like it. We have make-up, keys, wallet (girls' wallets are also bigger than guys'), femine hygeine supplies, mirror, etc. I guess, summed up, that's why we carry purses.

I was going to say "because women don't like having lumps in their silhouette that would result from keeping wallet and keys in pockets", but I'm going to change it to "we don't have enough pocket space to carry everything women are supposed to carry (wallet, keys, checkbook, chapstick, lipstick, tissues, "feminine supplies" and other "mom-related" items your kids might need from you)".

So, if femininity = practicality, then yes, purses are a symbol of femininity.

Well, most of all mens clothing has pockets. Not all womens clothing has pockets. But we need more than keys and wallet. WE have lipstick, keys, wallets, cell phone, powder compact, tissues, lip gloss, shopping lists/to-do lists and this list could go on and on.....

We have to have something that matches the shoes :)

Women need purses, they usually have longer hair and need combs or brushes, they need feminine hygiene products, if they wear make-up they usually need to re-apply their lip gloss & powder, if they wear contacts it's nice to have a little extra saline, if they write checks they need a place for their checkbook and pen, keys, most women don't like to clip their phones on their pants so they need a place for their phone.
I don't know if purses are a real symbol of feminity, they are great accesories though. Take Care :)

some are and a few are not. one won't be able to make a blanket assertion approximately all women of any race. elegance is thoroughly subjective and interior the attention of the beholder. most of the folk listed below are being very stereotypical, even people who're being complimentary. All black women don't have extensive noses or thick lips or a similar texture of hair or sparkling pores and skin or huge butts or maybe dark pores and skin. the super majority of black individuals are blended race despite in the event that they do no longer seem to be to you - this is reasons why maximum black individuals do no longer look like Africans. i do no longer understand what women people who've spoken on very own hygiene are putting around yet perhaps you're able to be able to desire to discover a greater proper variety of human beings to affiliate with.

I don't know how guys can get along with out even a small bag, to carry EVERYTHING in their pockets or in one massive wallet that sits in their pocket like a huge tumor. Keys in my pocket would hurt and not all clothes have pockets, it would look very good in a skirt pocket. We have hips, most of us at least and a huge lump on our leg isn't attractive.

First of all, a neccesity for all our things.
Secondly, a fashion statement. Look around and see Louis Vuitton, Prada Chanel, Dior, etc.
Bags for evening, day. Bags to carry your dogs in.
