My newborn is sooooooooo afraid of her little tubby. I will get in the shower, and have my hub hand me the baby. I will rock her and wash her at the same time. She seems much more calmer this way. I hand her back, and he gets her ready for bed. I continue on with my shower. Its no big deal.. I think that up to a year is fine.... To me it is no different than breast feeding, and most think that one year is the cutt off point for that...

I think we live in a sad world where a parent has to ask if it's appropriate to bathe with their own child!
In this overly PC world everything we do with our children is questioned not only by ourselves but by others around us, sadly even some whom it doesn't concern!
If you feel uncomfortable bathing with your child then that is fine, don't do it. But please, don't condemn those who do or raise their children more liberally.
And for the record, I don't bathe with mine anymore as they are now 2 (boy) and 3 (girl) years old and bathe together (and I like the bath to myself! It's me time!) I will stop them sharing the bath when they start asking awkward questions about anatomy (and I don't mean just the physical features) or if they request a bath individually.

Not appropriate at all??? You couldn't be more wrong!! Parents bathing with children is fun and relaxing and it gives you another dimension in your relationship. Just like eating meals together, bathing together is a superb time to chat and learn about each other. I bought a corner bath when my two were little so all 3 of us could get in. Loved it!

It depends. I bathe with my daughter and she's 7. We use these water crayons and pratice reading by me writing words on the shower walls. I'm not at all embarrassed. Now after she gets to be like 10, the bathing together will stop. It's really up to the individual person, when they feel uncomfortable. As far as washing her, she does that herself. She started that a long while ago. I don't feel you need to wash your child, you should teach them how to do it.

now if you're a pedophile, you shouldn't be in the bath with your child no matter the age, you shouldn't be a parent at all for that matter.

With proper clothes sure. Many people are not self conscious about nudity. I think it's inappropriate to bath with children completely nude. But then, children develop inhabitions when they are taught to hide their bodies from view. Throughout the world there are extremes of social acceptability of nudity and proper clothing. For example Islam a woman must not expose any part of the body to a man, least they tempt him sexually. In European countries, nudity is acceptable and it's no big deal for a woman to bare herself at home or the beach for example or a for a male.
Bathing with children of young age may be more socially acceptable for women than for men, because males have a higher propensity for petaphilia. What business does a grown man have bathing with young children nude?
I remember bathing with my babysitter at age seven. That was marvelous. We remember things from our youth and form our standards by the way we are raised.
I guess nudity is a type of freedom from our preconceptions. I think it should not be forced on children. It may cause mental problems later. Some people are more self conscious than others. The attitudes of the children would be evident from a very young age and parents should be sensitive to that.
I think it's better to allow the children to decide how they want to deal with nudity.

When the child is very young of course you may. Lets get away from this ridiculous nonsense that its sinful and disgusting to do such things with your own child. We all know why people think you shouldn't but lets not get carried away. Its as ridiculous as stopping parents from photographing their children in the school play or on the beach. We are not all perverts and shouldn't be frightened of doing such things. Obviously there is an age when its not appropriate but you must use your own judgement. They'll be stopping dads from changing nappies next.

My wife would up until the baby was big enough to sit on his own. I guess he was a good 7 or 8 months before she got one of those seats for his bath.

Her whole reasoning is that when ever she would give him a bath she would be soaked from it too. So she just got in with him until he could at least sit.

I've had my little cousin in the bath with me when he was a baby up til he was about fifteen months, but now he'll quite happily splash about by himself. He is nearly five now and I wouldn't dream of bathing with him now, I think it's however old they are when they become aware of stuff. But for babies it's ok.
