It's like the vcr of the today. You just hit record, or set a show up to be recorded later. It also records what you are currently watching so you can pause, rewind, and if you are behind the current schedule, you can fast forward through commercials.

Tivo is my new god.
While you are watching a program, it automatically digitally records it in half-hour units (which move along as the show plays). This allows you to pause it, or rewind it slightly. I use the pause button at the top of a program, wait ten minutes, then watch it; that way I can fast forward through commercials. Any recording that has been done is lost when you turn off the TV.
You can also tell Tivo what to record (so you'll have access to it later, just like a VCR). You can set up a "season pass", so it will record all instances of a certain program.
Go to the website for further info, www.tivo.com

If you really want to know everything about TiVO, how to hookup to your TV, what you can do with it, how much it will cost etc.. go the link I have given here.
It also has a demo program to show you what you can do with the TiVO box after you purchase it. They have a web promotion going on right now, where the box is free but it costs you approx. $12.95 per month. check it out.
In short, it is interactive tv with a live program. You can pause if a phone call comes in while you are watching and you can continue where you left off. If you want to take a washroom break, or raid your fridge, same thing. Put it on pause and pick up where you left off. It is so convenient.
There are a lot of other features to it too.

Tivo is a digtal recording system that lets us pause, rewind, and record live TV. Instead of using video tapes or DVDs you can store I believe as much as 300 hrs of sitcoms, movies, sports and other TV programs in one little box.
It also let's you record seasonal shows. For example if you watch CSI: New York on CBS, you can record all the episodes that season, without programing TIVO each time. TIVO is compatible with Salteitle, digital cable, and anything else you have.
Services such as Direct TV, and Comcast offer a TIVO or DVR service.

Tivo is a digital video recorder. You can buy it and connect it to your sat elite or cable to record programs and then you can fast forward through the commercials so you can see more shows and movies. Its the next level up from a VCR.
