Hitler's political stance was pro-Christian conservative. Reading any one page of his manifesto, "Mein Kampf" will show just how much the religious convictions meant to him. His call to arms was to unite the two separate Christian entities in Germany under a single banner of nationalism and kick out the Jews and liberal progressives that threatened their way of life.

Hitler and his closest advisors (Hermann Goering, Goebbels, et al.) were virulently anti-intellectual, anti-liberal, pro-Christian, despised the welfare mentality, and were anti-cultural to boot. One of Hermann Goering's famous quotes is "Every time someone speaks of promoting culture I want to reach for my Browning."

The original purpose of re-education camps was to train the "worthless" dregs of society, the lazy and criminal, the value of working hard. The camps graduated classes every few months where previously homeless, or artists, or "free thinkers" were transformed into good hard-working German citizens. When the war effort stepped up though, these camps stopped letting people go, at first using them as slave labor, and then executing them outright. Later camps built after 1940 were designed with only the last two purposes in mind.

The religious bent and the "pro-citizen" orientation were actually big lies. Most people believed whole-heartedly in both, but the reality is that these camps were used as political prisons for anyone that disagreed or could possibly disagree with the Nazi party ideology. The common citizens, however, even those that lived next to camps, fully believed in what their government was doing...because the propoganda worked and deep down inside they knew better than to ask questions that they didn't want the answer to.

I'm a conservative and proud of that; and yes Hitler was an extremist on the conservative side. Its sickening how he murdered and destroyed so much; and conservatives lead the charge against him - remember the leader of France didn't want to challenge him - he was liberal - see what it got them?

Liberals support euthanasia - Hitler loved killing old people who couldnt work and handicaped people too

Liberals support abortion - Hitler would kill kids because they would grow up to be the guys that were fighting him now

Liberals attack everything America used to stand for and so did Hitler

As a conservative I can say that he would be against everything I stand for.

If extreme conservatism becomes fascism and extreme liberalism becomes communism then I would say he was definitely closer to being a conservative than a liberal. Unfortunately some of the people in America today who claim to be conservatives are really closer to being fascists than they are to being anything historically recognized as conservative.
