You need USB 2.0. Your computer is probably old and only has USB 1.0 or 1.1
Happened to me when I used my older computer.

hay, you had a question that your ipod shuffle not connected to your usb device its say device not recognized.
As per my experiance they are several steps you have to follow know !) what operation system do use?
2) if your opration system either then Xp or 2000 server you must have installed your ipod drivers in the pc.

try try again, mine did that for a while too. i shut down and restarted everything reinstalled all the software. I actually install ed the Old software for itunes that work all these new versions seem tomess up my computer.

It sounds like you have to install your iPod.
Did you receive an installation CD with it?
