Well, there is one in a hundred that I have invested in. It is my idea that names and brands survive in the long run and it is wise to invest in those names after they have been beaten down severely. In the late '90's, Kaiser Aluminum got into big, big trouble. They went bankrupt but they restructured all of their debt.
The company is paying down debt as fast as it can, though, granted, they have a long way to go. However, they just signed two new contracts with Boeing and Airbus that should make them profitable again around 2010. You can get in now for a paltry 0.05. Yes, five cents.
Over the near term, the stock will trade sideways by rolling. You can use that time to accumulate shares by buying low and selling high.
The ticker symbol is KLUCQ.
Good luck!

There is NO such thing as a GOOD stock under a buck, or even under $5.

Stocks in that price range are there because the companies have little intrinsic value yet, thus many, if not most, will fail.

PLUS, penny stocks often have very poor liquidity (this means there aren't enough people interested in buying and selling them) so the spread between the bid and ask is often large, and if you want to sell a position of any decent size, you will drop the bid very quickly and not likely be able to sell at the price point you want.

It's a sucker's bet.

Unless you have at least $50K to invest, you should stick to mutual funds. Otherwise you ARE going to get your clock cleaned.
