It could be the way your body works -- if you don't have to go frequently during the day, it's probably not a bladder problem per se, although you could have an imbalance of the hormone that regulates urine production. There's a hormone called "anti-diuretic hormone" (or ADH) that basically tells your kidneys to shut down and stop making as much urine when your body needs to conserve water. Most people automatically produce a lot of this hormone at night, which explains why they can sleep for 8 hours without having to pee even though they could never wait that long during the day... but if your body is off on that cycle, you could be producing as much or more urine during the night than you are during the day. This type of hormonal imbalance is thought to be one major cause of bed-wetting in children, but even though you're waking up in time to go to the bathroom instead of wetting the bed, you could still have something like this. Ask your doctor about this -- if there's a chance this might be the problem, there's a medicine you can take that's basically an artificial version of ADH, and that could make you have to go less at night. Good luck... I know this must be really annoying for you, and I hope you're able to figure something out to help!

Drinking lots of fluid late in the evenings and possible urine retention in the bladder due to prostate enlargement or Urinary tract infections. Diuretic medications like lasix or hydrochlorothiazide for high blood pressure condition also increases urinary frequency. Another cause is Diabetes .

Possibly an infection. Possibly drinking a lot of water before going to bed. Possibly having a very small bladder. Possibly something I don't know about. Good question for a doctor.

It could just be a weak bladder. Talk to your doctor about being put on Detrol LA. It is supposed to help you hold it longer. Also, try Kegel exercises. After having children or even before, you may find that the muscles are weaker and Kegels will help you tighten them up.
