There is a state park a few miles from where I live. It's pretty big. I was wondering how far into the woods can I go?

For everyone who said: Halfway, give yourself 10 points.
You can indeed only go halfway into the woods. Once you reach that point, no matter which direction you go... you're going OUT of the woods.
Kinda like standing on the North pole.. No matter which way you go.. you're going south.

A quick walking speed would be 3-5 miles per hour for an adult. If you know the distance you want to travel, say 4 miles, you can figure how long it will take you. If it takes you 60 minutes to walk 2 miles, then it will take 120 minues (2 hrs) to walk 4 miles.
Eat a solid meal first and prepare a good meal for yourself to eat when you get there. You'll need the energy to get back again. Eat 1/2 hr before you leave to go and 1/2 hr before you return.
Use blue or pink chalk to mark trees as you go through so you can find your way back. Take a compass, extra food, a raincoat, a flashlight, a camping knife, some matches and a radio. That way, if you get lost, you will be able to survive for a while so the authorities will have a chance to find you.
Sounds like a wilderness area so I wouldn't recommend going alone. If a bear chases you, don't climb a tree!
Good luck

Halfway, then you'll no longer be going into the park - you'll be leaving the park.
They did a satellite survey of the US to find the "loneliest location", that is, the location the farthest possible from any road, fire road, or trail. It turned out to be: 20 miles.
So you really can't go any further into the woods than 20 miles, because you'll be approaching another road or trail after that.
The world has shrunk in the last 150 years!

I don't know, but I'd stick to the trails, and definitely use the buddy system. Take your cell phone (although that may not work if you are out of cell range). You hear horror stories all the time about people getting lost like that and never getting found again.
