It also depends on how much you want to spend. I bought a Graco Snugride for 80.00 for this baby an I absolutly love it.
If you want top of the line, try Britax.
For my last two kids I have an Evenflo seat, it was much less expensive and only a 3 point harness. At that time though 3 point was standard and the carseat base was a brand new concept. It came with the travel system but I only used the carseat/stroller at the same time ONCE, however the stroller was too big for my car.
Some things to consider:
5 pont harness is MUCH better than three, get a 5 point harness. A five point will have two buckles that go into the bottom and clip in the middle, a three point will have a single buckle that goes in the bottom and clip in the middle. Three point goes over the head, with a five point the arms go though the straps.
Infant seats are GREAT but most babies only stay in them for 6-9 months before they outgrow them, then you need to buy a convertible seat. You can just buy a convertible seat but I promise there will be many times you wished you had that infant carier when you have to wake a sleeping baby to move him/her.
If you have two cars and will use both I suggest getting two bases for the infant seat. Much easier.
Finally, a note on safety. Get your seat professionaly installed if you can and watch and learn so you can do it again yourself. When properly installed your seat should NOT move around. The clip on the belt should rest at your baby's armpit level, not lower. On a rear facing seat the belts should be at or below the child's shoulder level, when foward facing the opposite is true. Read ALL instrucations with your seat and keep them in a safe place to refer to. It seems simple, but apparently its not. I got in someones car this week and their infant was so poorly buckkled in (from the seat itself to him in the seat) that I knew if they were in an accident the seat would NOT protect the child.
Car seats EXPIRE, check the date of manfactrer on the sticker. Most seats are good 5 or 6 years, some seats have an expiration date stamped into the plastic on the back where the straps come through. Never use a seat thats been in an accident unless it meets the exemption guidelines (such as no damage to the car, car drove away from accident, no airbags deployed etc) which can be found online.
Ok I'll hush, I could go on all day about carseat safety. I take it very seriously and am in the process of becaoming a certified tech.
Congrats on your new baby!

I agree with Graco. But I'll go a step farther. The car seat with a baby in it gets heavy, FAST!!! The stroller/carseat combos are wonderful. Another great thing, they come with a base for the car that stays strapped in, and the seat attaches to this base. No need to deal with the seat belt with every in and out of the car. Second vehicle? no problem. Checkout EBay, lots of sellers have just an additional base for sale, just make sure it fits the seat that you have!!! Good luck
