While it true that American Rock and Roll has it's roots deeply in black blues and spiritual music, you might be surprised to learn that the first real rap music written and recorded in this country came from a young white man from Hibbing, Minnesota.

Don't believe me? Try listening to songs like 'Subterranean Homesick Blues.'

He didn't call it rap back in the early 60s, of course. He called these songs 'talking songs.'

You agree or not?

(Yes, think..., this one can be answered. And he never bothered to take credit for creating the sound. He never needed to. By then he was already famous, an icon before he was 25.)

To an extent I agree as there have been storyteller artists for years. The big difference with rap obviuosly is the beat. Its more about gettin up and movin' as opposed to sitting and listening to a story.Sampling and scratching added another dimension.

Its believable but who really knows there are so many people who say and think they know who came up with rap. Its just another one of those questions like where man and women came from ? Questions that could never truly be answered huh? or can they?

Nope. But that's just my opinion. Everyone wants to take credit for something or another.
