Because of such things like the internet, video games, etc. There may be 6 billion people on the planet, but most of us don't wander past our own lives; work and home, so we never make ourselves open to meeting new people

Because we have lost the ties that bound us to one another.
We no longer live in big extended families and people who do are frowned upon.
It is so easy to cut the most binding of ties and get out of the most fundamental of responsibilities(example providing and taking care of your children) that many people are choosing to break their family and community ties.
The more we become technologically advanced the more we retreat into ourselves. We fool ourselves into believing work, TV, texting on a cell phone(please who wants to be bothered to actually call), and blogging on my space are actual replacements for real relationships.
Building true lasting human relationships are hard, and many people are choosing the easy route of technological relationships. That is why so many of us feel lonely.
I for one do not. I live in an extended family and while I have to deal with all the trials and tribulations that come with it, I also get the comfort of knowing there is always someone there for me.

It's human nature to feel lonely and like no one is there for you or with you. Believe me, you do have someone to guide you and help you. Your not ever alone although you may feel that way. We all feel lonely from time to time. I hope for you that it doesn't last forever. God Bless and keep you.

I believe that we have come to value the wrong things like material wealth, image and power instead of equity, justice and fairness. As a result we are isolated and adrift.

good question........I think, its just becasue we seee the world in the one we love. And the movement our loved one ditches us, we loose the world. And there we are lonely ....just left alone in this world though with 6 billions or more around.

sad but so true.... I don't know....i guess becasue looking for other people or humans to bring you happiness won't work (they are fleeting, independable, self-centered; not on purpose it is just what happens.) I guess one of life's lessons is to learn how to feel complete as one person. However companionship is nice.
