Um....One July 4th, all of my dad's side of the family was in Chicago, including my family, and we had a lot of food. I have no idea what the food was, but it was good, and I saw my grandpa smoking a cigar. That my first memory, and it just seems so familiar and family-promoting. My second one is we watched fireworks and I got on my dad's shoulders. I can't do that anymore, so I love the memories.

First July 4th away from home & family...I was on a special school outing from Memphis called "Operation Wilderness" for a summer credit--we visited the Alvin York Memorial Farm, in Pickett County, TN, in 1976.

All the times I, with both my parents, was able to watch the fireworks from the roof. Then there was a huge accident in the barges one year and the city stopped the fireworks for a few years. Now they're on the other side of town and I can't see them from the roof any more.
Plus my parents moved to the other side of the country...

when I was like 8 or 9 my dad had just come back from Puerto Rico and with him brought an ice shaver for snow cones. Well, my genius father decided that it was too hot that Fourth of July and instead of making sno cones he made snow balls, and we had a massive neighborhood snowball fight in the middle of July. That was really cool. (except all the dads were getting annoyed that we were going through the "snow" quicker than they could produce it)

On July 4, 2001, we went about BBQing watching fireworks,
never realizing what was about to happen in New York City.
I will always celebrate any holiday that comes up. Who knows
when it will be our last.

Every year I spend the 4th up at my nana's house on the beach and watch fireworks. It gives me time to get close to my grandparents.

The time my family could see the fireworks at the Tx City Dike from our back yard. We all sat in our chairs and ate homemade icecream and laughed and oohed and awed at the fireworks. We also had sparklers and back then I thought they were magical.
