I was told personally by a doctor why they make you turn your head. It actually has nothing to do with any medical benefit. It is so you will not cough in the doctors face.

You should find another Dr. She obviously is not experienced in this field! She should have told you to "bend it over baby, and cough"! Then you can really get a good view!

He's checking to make sure you don't have a hernia. Applying pressure to the muscles around your groin and caughing (causing the stomoach muscles to tighten) will tell a Dr if you have a hernia.
