Science follows the rules of nature. Scientific fact is all science is interested in. Science fiction, on the other had, is interested in ficticious fact. The use of a worm hole to shuttle from one area of the universe to anouther is science fiction. In science fiction, the author can justify almost anything happening and you cannot disprove him or her. In Science, you must prove and validate everything --- and then it is still not fact, but a proveable theory.

Science entails manipulation of the real world through the application of the scientific method to understand more about the universe we inhabit.
Science Fiction entails activating the imagination through the application of artistic license, usually based on some level advanced technology, to further the development and depth of an artistic medium (like a story.)
