I went to school with a girl with parents originally from England. She was the most deceitful, manipulative person I had ever met and caused me much grief and hurt.

I would not generalize and say all British people are like that. However I have lived in England for 17 years and I know for a fact that the average british person will not tell you what they think of you to your face. It is part of their culture and I have experienced in personally in several towns and cities around England throughout all different classes and age groups. I think many times they don't mean to be backstabbing or hippocritical but saying one thing to your face and another to someone else when you're not around is just how they are. Don't think I don't like british people because I may end up moving back there to live someday. I'm just presenting the facts as I have personally experienced them over the past 17 years of my life.

I'd take your statement "there are good people everywhere" a little further. I think that's so true, that you cannot make any general statement about any people. Being backstabbers, gossips and hypocrites is just as true for British people as it is for any other national group. Stereotypes are ALWAYS entirely useless.

Well, I'm British and whilst I've known some British people with one or all of those failings, I've worked in France and met similar. My mother's family is Spanish and when I've been there I've met similar there.
Perhaps it's a Europe-wide phenomenon? Or maybe it's global? After all, what with colonisation and Empire-building, Europe's impact has been extensive...

I'm in love with British people. Of course, I've only met a few, and read a lot of British books, and watched BBC America. And I have college friends that have lived there for many years. I see them as witty, somewhat self-deprecating, generally intelligent, and polite. Plus, their accents are all wonderful! Marry me?

If you believe that then you'd also believe that all Americans are self absorbed, loud, brash and have no manners what so ever. Generalization based on London US tourists. Totally unfair and untrue, but how does that hi-light a need for change? All that does is encourage racism and bigotry.

No. I don't think any group of people are generally like that, only the odd individual.

regrettably they're everywhere you circulate. that's painful once you're forced to handle them. this is brought about me to be very careful till now I have faith absolutely everyone. yet once you could, you need to purpose to enable them to get to you. circulate on doing what your doing and picture of how lots greater mature you're than them. you will make lasting friendships with people who rely, on a similar time as they're going to proceed to alienate those with their habit. the terrific element you're able to do is instruct them that their immaturity would not worry you.
