I have been working with and repairing computers sence the TRS-80.
The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)
The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (www.spybot.info)
AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (www.spywareblaster.com)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.
These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.
The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have counteless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be tought in schools)

Hellow fellow victom. I will be watching to see what OTHER answers you get. I had it happen.. I have a Dell, windows xp, and last year I started a comedy chat line with on an aol chat line.
I made the mistake of adding my cell phone in there and was hoping the Tonight show would see how quick witted I was, etc. Also, I had just ordered a camera from ebay. Added all up, a hacker got me. My phone made millions of calls and my e mail sent out 30,000 pieces of advertisement for land and porno! At one point this hack had control of my mouse pointer and was sending ME mail that said things like "I bet you won't open THIS one!" If I could find the guy I'd shove his *** out a window! At first, I was able to fix it by cutting my desktop losses, files and everything and doing the F12 key thing where you bring you computer back to FACTORY settings. Installed all my programs, cried over my loss of brilliance in the writing dept. and everything! (P.S. once you are back to normal, create a safey disc, or discs!!) anyway, all was well for a week and THEN... between the hacker and my pushing buttons TOO many times, my hard-drive literally burnt up. I mean the sucker had torch marks on the top when it blew! Yours probably wont! But if the computer doesn't respond in the future, DO NOT KEEP HITTING KEYS. Doesn't work for the elevators and it FRIES our motherboards and hard-drives! Check your manuel, or call the pc company on how to get yourself back to FACTORY settings. Other than that, unplug and have someone check it for hardware damage the hack-screw might have caused... it should be a FeLinE when caught hacking!!!!!!!!! I will do a prayer for your succcess! It sucks!

1. Do a System Restore to the last restore point. You may be able to bring it back to the day before the infection and it will loose the virus.
2. Do a System Recovery with the system disks and reload everything. Make sure to format the drive before the Recovery, it will ask you.
3. Otherwise, It is difficult, but possible to remove a virus, but you must be willing to spend several days.
4. Purchase PC Tools Anti virus, it will clean like no other program I know of. Then install IE7, Windows Defender, and Yahoo Toolbar, in that order.
Let me know if you can't do 1, or 2.

get on google and search for all these, they are all free download programs and do not take keys or stuff after 30 days. Been using them all for over a year and are top rated by computer magazines.
- Ad-aware 6.0
- SpyWare Blaster
- Yahoo Ad Killer (download the toolbar then delete it, you are left with just the program)
- eTrust PestControl
- Hijack This (great program to remove items that are impossible)
- WinPatrol (this program is great, leave it running it bothers nothign but if anything that isn't suppose to start or if someone tries to enter it blocks them and then asks you)

Hello
I think I got what you want...
First, reinstall Windows, by FORMATTING!!!
Then before doing ANYTHING ELSE, first, go to the google site
and search for 'google packs' download that. That includes a free 6 month symantec norton anti virust. 6 month should be enough for you to save money as much as about $50 bucks
which then, you can buy your year's worth of norton antivirus
then after installing that, and doing nothing before it, you should
go to google, search 'zone alarm' then go to their site. then get
the personal edition which is free forever.
ZoneAlarm is (I think) the best firewall. no hacker in five years since its installation. Very easy to set up and the new version has
a 'game mode' which I don't recommend you to do.
But other than that,. you should be secure

Go to www.lavasoft.com and download an application called "AdAware". The free version is really good and gets rid of all but the newest and most cleverly written spyware.

Download Ad Aware and Spybot Seek and Destroy. They are free and at the links below. They are awesome, but should be used together because they both don't get everything, but pretty much get everything together. Also, don't post your email address in this kind of forum because people go through here looking for email addresses to increase your spam.

downloads.com. Search for adaware and spybot. These are totally free spyware removers. After you are done with that. Do a search for firewalls and try zonealarm to keep out online hackers.
