if you are at work where they use apple or at a college where they use apple, then "Apple."

But EVERYWHERE ELSE, instead buy the worldwide business standard, an "IBM" computer with Microsoft windows and the "office suite" word and spreadsheet programs.

Why do people keep asking this question? IBM doesn't even make PCs anymore - they sold that business to Lenovo. So, strictly speaking, Apple - IBM doesn't have a home computer business.

As for PC or Mac? New Macs can run Windows natively with boot camp. So buy a Mac and run both.

Otherwise, you have to provide more specific details - what do you do with the computer? If you're trying to get one for home to prepare your kids for the real world, then PC with Windows - the vast majority of businesses use it and in my opinion you are doing a disservice to your children if you don't teach them on the system they are BY FAR most likely to use when they enter the workforce.

that's a tough one. i've owned both, and both are excellent machines. i have decided that i like the mac operating system tons better than windows, but there's a lot less software for it. some of the software that businesses and schools use you can only get for windows.

somebody else mentioned the fact that you can now run both OS X and windows on an intel based mac. but it's not true that they are completely invulnerable to viruses, etc. OS X is still pretty safe, but if you put windows on a mac, you have to protect it exactly the same you would a pc with antivirus and firewall software. it's not the hardware (the machine) that's attacked, it's the windows software.

if money is not an issue, go for the mac so you can have OS X and windows. otherwise, i say go with the ibm. they are very good quality.

I use to preach only IBM cause the cost factor, the amount of software available, etc.

Many items you use, drop down menu, mouse, firewire, etc all came from Apple.

But now Apple has a new one out that is Mac operating system AND Windows operating system together.

Since Apples are like non vulnerable to virus's and many other problems and since it now has both operating systems, to me its Apple hands down.

Apples are more people-friendly and is a much more fun computer to work with, but with IBMs they are Steve Jobs' original enemy, so I dislike what jobs dislikes, he is a smart man.

Depends on what you want to do. Apple less hassle to setup but you have to buy Apple specific hardware and upgrades. Not as much software for Apple on the market.

IBM compatible tons of software, upgrades at this time are cheaper as there are lots of products available at cheap prices such as memory, cd, DVD writers, network cards, keyboards, mice etc.

It depends entirely on what you want to do with the computer. I think you mean basically "Mac" or "PC". Here are the pros and cons of each:

Mac PROs:
-- Easy to use right away
-- Sets up easily
-- Good for people with less knowledge about the inner workings of computers
-- Very good and clever software for certain applications like IPod, ITunes, digital photo software, etc.
-- Macs are good for everyday personal things like email, shopping online, or editing home videos.
-- Macs come all in one package and they look cool.

Mac CONS:
-- Stuff gets a little more expensive
-- Macs are not easily upgradeable, although they are top-of-the-line when you buy them.
-- Macs are not customizable (you can't build your own Mac from parts).
-- Macs can be frustrating for experienced computer users who like to tweak stuff.
-- Sometimes Mac software is "patchy" and doesn't work as well as standard stuff for PCs.

PC PROS:

-- PCs are easy to build from scratch.
-- PCs are infinitely customizable and upgradeable (can buy a new part instead of a whole new computer).
-- PCs are sort of the industry standard, so there is no such thing as software that can't be run on a PC.
-- PCs are great for playing videogames, for business (great non-fun applications), or anything that involves lots of hardcore computer muscle.
-- PCs can be bought on the cheap.

PC Cons:
-- Not as cool or as user-friendly as Macs.
-- Lacks some of the all-in-one integrated software that comes in a Mac.
-- Won't get started as quickly as with a Mac.
-- PCs usually require more computer knowledge and more "tweaking".
