It's always on July 4, the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia USA in 1776.

4th of July is this Tuesday and it's the celebration of America's Independence from the British.
It pretty much all started in 1776 but it ended in 1783 with July 4th being officially declared a National Holiday.
Found some good informative sites on what it means, when it happened, the events leading up to it and the final outcome resulting in the holiday we know today.

Hope the links give you some ideas into just what it means, what happens etc. No it is definitely not like valentines day.

Oh on the topic of England, they have a celebration much like our Independence Day; called Guy Fawkes Day. Interesting little history behind that one too. Fun celebration, they do fireworks and eat treacle taffy made from a type of dark molasses called treacle. Pretty yummy but BOY is it CHEWY *lol* makes Salt Water taffy look like melted sugar when it's in your mouth in my opinion. Course it's also a great way to get a loose tooth out *hehe* ( been there, done that *rofl*)

Fourth of July is not the same day as Valentines Day. They're months apart. Fourth of July, aka Independence Day, July 4, 1776, was when our Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, thus making the USA a seperate nation from England. Although England didn't recognize that until a few years later. 1788 if I remember correctly. May be wrong though.

Fourth of July celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on 4 July 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. It's a federal holiday when everything is closed, and people go to see fireworks, bbq, etc.
Valentine Day celebrates love, but you can shop, go to the bank or do your things.

It's Independence Day in America, the day the USA became a country of its own. I'm Canadian, so if I didn't get all the details, I'm sorry! : )
