You can die, but probebly not from belly peircings. Just wait it out until you're 18 and can do what you want then. I'd say a great reason not to is scarring that could last a lifetime. And that's the best case scenario. I do know that belly peicings need a pro and there can be complications that are very unpleasant, like irritation and infection.
Bring it up to your mom anyway. At least she'll know what's on your mind and maybe you'll find out why she thinks it's a bad idea. It sound like she's just trying to be a good mom.
If she didn't love you, she'd just say yes to shut you up.

It's too hard to do it alone. If you're ready to have one anyway even when your mom disagrees, then why not go to a professional to do it, it's cheep enough.
Don't try it alone, you're gonna hurt your self and the result of the piercing will be ugly. Believe me it's very hard to make it right and straight and also you're going to need some specific short of needles and tools for the job, which you cant buy cause you're too young.
Save some money and do it right. So afterwords you can show it off to people.
I had one and it hurt like hell, I don't believe that your friend is calm enough to manage the whole procedure successfully (I'm sure when blood and those creepy fluids pop out she will faint).

Don't pierce it yourself. I did mine when I was 15 with a safety pin. Just wait until your 18 and get it done professionally. Professionals use hollow and very sharp needles.
If you pierce it yourself you have a huge chance of it being off center and looking stupid. Mine was off center and looked stupid. I even have a stupid scar.
Anyway. 7 years may seem long, but it will be worth the wait. You don't want to look stupid do you?
Or you could just ask your mom, and tell her that you can have it done professionally in a clean environment, or you will do it yourself one day. This will probably get you grounded, but it could be your best bet.

You could hit the nerve cluster above the navel that can cause permanent nerve damage, in addition to that if you do not have properly sterilized equipment you could easily get a staph infection which if left untreated can in fact kill you. Only a doctor can properly treat a staph infection and sometimes it requires a hospitol stay.
Rubbing alcohol, fire and boiling do not kill the staph infection, only an autoclave or medical grade cold sterilization products can do that.
one type of staph infection is CA-MRSA
CA-MRSA infections are typically limited to the skin and do not result in severe disease (such as infection of the bloodstream) or death. However, on rare occasion, CA-MRSA can cause severe illness even when treated quickly, as in the cases of four children who died from CA-MRSA (18).
Read more on this type of staph infection here:
http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=24068
Now then, at the age of 11 you are not done growing and the navel will strech as you get taller, if you have it pierced before the age of 16 or 17 you are begging for an ugly scar as the piercing slowly pulls out as you get taller.
If it is that important to you, you should just wait til your at least 16.
That being said if you insist on doing it yourself then go do your research at www.BMEZINE.com
and aftercare at www.tribalectic.com
and order presterilized supplies, usually you can get them on ebay.
perhaps if you do the research and present your mother with an educated summery of navel piercings, problems that can occur, the procedure as a hole, how to find a good piercer in your area, she will see that you cared enough to take the time to research it and maybe you can convince her to let you get it done.
www.safepiercing.org
is another great research site on piercings.

I would definitely not recommend doing that. You won't die from it, but you could get a severe infection. My friend got her's done professionally, and it still got infected. It got all pus-y and red and her whole stomach was all spotchy and it left a scar. I would definitely recommend going to a reputable place and getting it done...you don't want to end up with scars! Are you just too young or something? I'd say get magnetic ones until you're old enough then...it's not worth it, trust me! : )

The facts are yes, you can die. You can get a staph infection and it can kill you. You think you know everything and if you truly knew it all you could get a job quit school and live on your own. But you can't there are laws against it because adults know that kids your age are too stupid.
And when you get Hepatitis for life you will wish you were dead.

I know how - but I won't tell you, sorry.
Its a really bad idea - sorry, belly buttons are tricky piercies any how - even professionally done ones get infected.
Also, you may end up making ugly scars that you will regret the rest of your life.

BAD idea! I pierced mine on my own when I was 14 and I'm 20 now with a ugly scar on my bellybutton, you never know how ugly your bellybutton is when you have a scar from self-piercing! Wait and then think it over again, when your mom says it's okay or when you turn 18, then do it.
