This has nothing to do with the CPU. It has everything to do with the graphics card(s) you use. I'm easily able to do this with an NVidia GeForce 5200 with a single DVI and a single VGA output. Some systems using ATI cards MIGHT require defining the "primary" monitor - only the primary monitor can display video with ATI cards I've seen. This may hold true for dual video cards as well.

i've done this while my kids watch dvd as i work on my laptop. this is assuming your video adapter has multiple monitor capability, hook your s-video output to the tv s-video input then go to display properties>settings then enable the 2nd monitor you then drag the movie to the extended monitor area. now your laptop is your primary screen while the tv is an extension but doesn't share the same output. you can either hook your audio out to your avr or just use your pc speakers it's up to you. enjoy...

if your video card has 2 connections in the back of it for monitors and/or tv, then hook both of them up. right click on the desktop and go to properties. go to the settings tab and then advanced. look at the top tabs for your vid card name (for example, i have the standard 'general' 'adapter' 'monitor' 'troubleshoot' tabs, but then my card has a specialized tab called 'GeForce 7800GT') and select it (GeForce 7800GT). look through there and find something about dual monitors and activate it. there are little tweaks you can do like mirroring the same image on both monitors or extend your desktop onto monitor 2. you can exit out of that window and go back into your display properties and actually move the monitors around on an invisible plane and actually pick where your mouse starts/end and where the two monitors are located.

simplist method in windows xp and above is (with both monitors conected to the graphics card) (i use a radeon 9550 256MB)) just go in to display settings and set the second display as active, then set the desktop area to EXPAND to the second screen. you now have one PC with two semi independant displays.
in the control panel also select by draging the screens to the correct positiion left right etc compared to where monitor 1 your pc primary display panel is located.
easy to do and with ATI grapics cards ATI have a control program to allow this to be set up easily.
see www.ati.com for info if you have an ATI card. or the manufacturers website of your grapics card.

I guess two video cards help you get two different outputs.
