I think thesis is something you want to prove and research is something that is proven and you want to make practical.

A thesis is usually extremely long, intense study during a Master's or Doctorate program that gets published and reviewed by your academic peers.

Research is usually a project used to build up information to support your thesis. You gather previous information from other people's published research (and theses) and reference it in your own thesis to support whatever you are trying to prove or negate.

Social studies is such a broad topic. I suggest narrowing it down first, sticking with something you enjoy researching (finding information on it, dates, pictures, etc). Start by clearly defining what you are studying then back that up with legitimate information to reach a conclusion.

I believe that a thesis is the initiation of a new theoretical conclusion having an objective value. Research is the compiliation of data as a president having no predetermined objective and not even necessarily having a conclusion. Then again as Voltaire said," if you want to discuss philosophy with me then you must define your terms." Ergo Voltaire argues that terms are subject to change in time or context!

A thesis is an example of original research. It is research written up in a formal report. Research is just a broader spectrum and looking for unfound evidence cures and other such stuff.

A thesis is an arguement, a point that you are trying to make. A research is just a project involving looking into sources, studying, experimentation, analysis...In other words, you need to do a research to support your thesis.

Your research paper is about the facts on your topic. Your thesis statement is more about your personal theory on the topic after all the facts have been presented to you. I hope this helps you!
