i have an AC adapter which seems like working okay ..but my toshiba laptop showing input shd be 15 volt and 5 amp ...but my adapter shows it can give 15 volt with 4.3 ampere ...i tried and it runs okay .......is it safe to run at low ampere .....plz help i bought my laptop today and i dont wanna ruin it ..........

That amp rating is max case (generally 10 to 20% over kill) so the 0.7 amp shortage should not be any problem. In this case the current is less of a concern than the voltage. There is no way you can get 15 volts out of your car. Even at fast idle with a fully charged battery you can only get about 14.7 volts off the regulator.

it wont ruin it. laptops have a battery. Thus, if your laptop is consuming less than 4.3 amps, the adapter can recharge it, and when the laptop starts to use more than 4.3 (probably when you really work the computer), it can run off the battery. Its the voltage you have to worry about, not current.

A .7 amp difference lower should be a cause of concern, I just can't help but wonder what made you check the voltage and amperage in the first place?

How accurate of a meter did you use?

D'you mean one of those thingies for charging up your car battery?

I would keep a number of laptops handy, so that every time you blow one, you just grab the next one from the stack. :)
