It's the skinnier girls in class for most, but only the ones who are pretty and popular. You don't even notice the girls who are skinny and not so pretty. You start to think that they will get the guy that you want. It's also unrealistic expectations. You see a picture of a model in a bathing suit and you think it would be cute on you. But when you try it on you don't look like the model, so you think that if you just loose a bit of weight on your thighs it'll be perfect. Then that becomes an obsession.
For me it was mostly ballet. With a bit of those other things. I wanted to be a good ballerina, and all good ballerinas are skinny. So I tried to stop eating. Never a good idea. I only realized how far off the mark I had gone when I was sticking a toothbrush down my throat.

They are taught to value attention above all else because that's what our culture rewards. Its the same reason a professional athlete makes 100 times more money than a teacher or fireman, when both may have more positive impact on society. Its the reason you see Angelina Jolee on tv walking the red carpet more often than the scientists that successfully landed probes on mars. These things get attention, which validates many peoples sense of self-worth. There's nothing wrong with beauty, entertainment, sports, wealth, etc., but our culture is obsessed with it to the point that teenage girls will risk their health to live up to our cultures backward values.

It could be magazines , it could be friends ,it could be ones family a little teasing could really make one think is it true a magazine says to be beautiful you have to be skinny but if you open youre eyes and look around people are all beautiful in there own way lets say a fat girl is sitting there reading a book she looks up at you and all you notice is her eyes she has really beautiful eyes one should not go by what others say look at youreself and you decide is there something that i could fix about myself because i want to ? and do it dont do it for someone else cuz maybe just maybe what you dont find beautiful about youreself someone else does.

Because of all the media attention on all these young, skinny, beautiful women. All you got to do it pick up any magazine. Young girls want to look like that because thats what they think society thinks is true beauty.

Because they watch to much TV and read to many of those dang magazine that make you feel like your not good enough the way they are. I'm a graphic artist and trust me I fix up those pictures before they run in the magazines and those girls aren't all that hot till I work my magic on them. Love yourself the way you are with no make up or anything before you go slapping on make up like you gotta hide who you really are.

Pressure. Have you looked at a magazine stand lately? Is that what real women look like, or what we're told we should look like?
