You could argue that without luck, the scientific method would be useless. Many very substantial scientific discoveries were caused by pure luck. The discovery of penicillin, radioactivity, Pluto's moons, and numerous other discoveries were pure lucky accidents. Even though they used the scientific method to follow up the luck, luck was the spark of discovery, not the scientific method.

Well, with luck, you can win any bet if it luck comes up for you at that time. Scientific stuff, like say If I take a hammer, and swing it against my head, I'll probably get hurt. Luck in that situation would be if suddenly my worse enemy or ex-wife happened to get in the way.

The path of mankind’s evolution is full of technological inventions. While a scientist must be prepared, many inventions were the result of a stroke of luck or accident.

Perhaps you could cite some inventions that were a happenstance of luck--like silly putty, which was an experiment accidentally left overnight. (I'm sure you can find some more meaningful ones.)

There are so many unknowns in the universe (we only think we know it all), it is mostly by "luck", or you could say "gut feeling" (same as luck), or "hunch" (same as luck), or coincidence (same as luck), or "right time at the right place" (same as luck) -- the list is endless -- that we truly can "scientifically" prove anything. "Luck" (or one of the sayings above) starts someone to apply knowledge to a theory.

Life is all about "luck".

Well it's my understanding that a lot of scientific discoveries were basically just lucky finds. People stumbling across something while looking for something else, which is odd, because there's no scientific basis for "luck". Weird huh?

this is just my opinion. scientific method dose not always answer to the question why something happen and in the human mind needs an answers. rather then driving ourselves crazy analyzing it to death it is just a simple way of answering the question. most people choose to accept it . I also think that culture has a bit to do with it and how you are brought up. you can have one with out the other. other wise we would know the difference.

there are so many examples out there where there isn't enough scientificly based information available to make a factual basis for believeing that luck has no part of.. like, why are we here?
Or.. what has conspired to make the universe what it is and our suns creation or our specific placement in the Milky Way and what that has meant for the possibilty for our planet to support life.. or any of the grand scheme of life itself as we know it.. what started the process of evolution..?
I suspect it is all just luck that has stemmed from luck.. it would be impossible to proove otherwise :)
