Drink a lot of coffee first, maybe?
I'm sorry, I know you are serious. I believe a guitar is one of the hardest instruments there is to learn to play. It probably requires plenty of patience and practice. Perhaps if you could find an excellent teacher, that might help speed up the process some. Good luck.

LISTEN TO ME. The other responses are useless. Don't use a soft pick, it's a big mistake. Use a medium to hard. The way to get fast is to learn a riff.....play it correctly.....and play it as fast as you can, as long as it's legible, over and over and over again. Do this every day and your speed will increase. One person who responded to your question said to play for 15 minutes per day......that's a joke. Practice MANY hours per day.....like 6 or 8, if you want to get good. It's not easy, but you can do it with huge amounts of practice!!

keep your fretting hand close to the strings (don't pull your fingers away from the strings) and practice up & down picking over and over
practice every day for at least 15 minutes

Yeah! Practice ... the more you do it the faster you'll get.
