This question deffinitely hits the heart. I personally celebrate with friends. If we want to drink we do. If we want to smoke we do. If we want to light fireworks, Illegal or not, we do. There isn't too many police officers who will stand in your way unless you are being stupid. That is why we call it the land of the free. I have a policeman that lives across the street he watches but does not impede in our celebration. I live in a small town. In the cities they have controlled fireworks. Most cost millions of dollars for the whole show. We have parades in the day. Rain, lightening, sleet, snow, or hurricane will not stop our celebration. Unless you run into a Democommies(crats) like the Clintons, Gores, or, Kerrys' who do not support the flag or anything America stands for. We have fought hard and lost alot of friends and family to keep that flag flying high (except when it's at half mast untill noon to support our fallen Americans who have died to keep it there). We do have singers who come and sing and any American even the famous singers like Toby Keith, Kelly Clarkston, or anybody would come sing even if it was for 80 people in a small city. that is what a true American does. Thank you for your interest in our society. And thank you for helping us in the revolution. Also thank your leaders for backstabbing the whole world and giving Saddam missiles he was not supposed to have. The Germans gave them night vision goggles want to thank them too. I know you had nothing to do with it personally but if you didnt know you do now.

Well, In America July 4th is the celebration of July 4th, 1776. That was the day the decleration of independance was signed and the original 13 colonies became seperate from Britain. We celebrate it with fire works and maybe a cake or cup cakes or something. Most people do sparkles and have the family over. Sort of like new years eve only red, white, and blue, Americas colors. For most it is simple but for those who want to make it a big deal with drinks and friends. No orchestra involved though.

I am from the south and we usually have friends and family gather for a day of cooking out on the grill, socializing with each other and setting off fireworks in the evening. Our town also has a summer festival over the July 4th weekend that includes famous singers, food vendors set up, crafts for sale, fireworks and amusement park type rides and games for children to play.

the way that my family and i celebrate the fourth is we go to the park during the day, we play the games watch the magic shows and the music and eat the food like they have at a fair, and then we go back to my house where my mom cooks out on the grill, my aunt and uncle come over and we all hang out and set off little fireworks until its time for the big firework shows, we live by the park where they have the fireworks, and we can sit in our front yard and watch them. Its very fun

The 4th of July is a national holiday. We are big on cooking out or barbequeing. We will fix burgers or chicken on the grill. Later we will load the cooler filled with drinks and food on the boat. We take blankets and a CD player and go out on the lake for the fireworks. We cuddle in the blankets and listen to patriotic music while we watch the colors fill the sky. We eat to much and really enjoy ourselves. We also think about our freedoms and all the service men and women who fought to keep us free. We think about our soldiers over in Iraq and all over the world. I no longer have little children but they love to light sparklers and the older boys love the firecrackers the louder the better. Its a great holiday!!!

Family and friends all come over in the late afternoon for a cook out.
The kids play and the grown ups just sit around and relax.
After dark, the adults set off the larger fireworks and the smaller kids get to play with sparklers.
Some times rather than set off our own fireworks, we may go to the city's big show.
Most of all it's a big party, and a time for family and friends to get together.

Picnics and lots and lots of food. Someone will get drunk and start a fight. Someone else will get drunk and throw up. Someone else will get drunk and pass out. Cakes with strawberries and whipped topping for stripes and blueberries for stars. People arguing about the damned war(whichever war is being fought that year. Of course, this year it's Iraq and Afghanistan). If anyone is still conscious after dark, they will watch fireworks, unless it's raining, which it usually is here (Seattle). Next day, everybody goes to work hung over.
By the way, every French girl I know speaks better English than I do.
Happy Canada Day

mainly I would say Americans celebrate with their friends and family, have a barbecue, and just hang out. Fireworks are a HUGE part of 4th of July.
Larger cities put on big firework displays after dark. This is a huge gathering for those who want to brave the crowds!

We usually gather with family and/or friends and have a cook out. Sometimes we go watch fireworks somewhere, sometimes we do our own, but then they're not as big. There is usually a lot of drinking. Most towns and cities have big celebrations with food and bands and fireworks. Many smaller cities and towns will have parades.
