You are thinking of a terranium (like aquarium). I had one once, and I enjoyed it. Although, you need to be aware that it will have "rainy days" where there is so much moisture on the glass that you cannot see in. If you decide to make one, you should purchase some worms (red wigglers). The aeriate the soil and help keep the natural balance within the confined area. I have seen terraniums with small frogs in them, but I don't know how long the frogs survived. I don't think they could survive lont without insects.

A terarium, my dadf used to build those, but some call them fish tanks/ aquariums, same thing really, just depends upon what's inside!
