It could be red earth mixed in with the rain.

"It's Bud the Spud,
from the bright red mud,
Goin' down the highway smilin'.
The spuds are big
On the back o' Bud's rig
And they're from Prince Edward Island,
They're from Prince Edward Island."

There are places where the earth is red, and one of them is Prince Edward Island in Canada. It is good soil for growing potatoes (spuds).

Happy Canada Day, eh?
