My husband and I live in a Manufactured home, much like a mobile home, but without the wheels, and it is a 3 bedroom home, with 2 baths, a fenced in yard with landscaping all around, a 2 car garage, fireplace, and about 1800 square feet of living area...
It is in a community of homes that offer a club house, tennis courts, playground, basket ball court and swimming pools...
Unlike site-built homes, manufactured homes are fabricated in a factory setting, where the controlled environment protects construction materials from inclement weather, theft and vandalism...

The average size home in the US is 1800 square feet. But that does not include higher end homes...just a general example for middle class.
I have a 2056 sq ft home

Mine is a 2505 sf home, but the yard is small compared to older, smaller houses. After having lived here a year, I'd almost rather have a smaller home with a bigger yard.

Your parents house doesn't feel like home because home is made with people you love and the people you love aren't all there anymore.
