Carrot Nutrition
Carrots are low in calories, and are an excellent source of beta carotene, which is converted to Vitamin A by the body. Carrots are also a good source of fiber.

One raw 7 1/2 inch carrot contains 31 calories, 7 grams of carbohydrates, Vitamin A and 2.2 grams of fiber.

Carrots have a long history that includes Wisconsin as one of it's top producers.

One handful of Mini-Peeled carrots or one medium fresh carrot counts as one serving of your 5 A Day.

Calories in Carrots:
1/2 cup sliced cooked carrot = 35 calories

Carrots are the richest source of beta-carotene. This is of great benefit in the fight against cancer. Studies show that eating carrots reduces the incidence of cancer and may even reverse symptoms. Not just good for the eyes, but carrots are also beneficial for the heart, circulation, skin and lungs. The bright orange color of carrots tell you they're an excellent source of Vitamin A.

So don't worry about gaining too much weight, and you don't have to bribe your kids to eat them, they should want to. They say they're gross right? Well, there are many ways to prepare carrots, many recipes to use, and a variation of dips that can be used to enhance the flavor. (I prefer cooked.)

Carrots = Carotene

You can eat a whole plate full at Thanksgiving dinner and not fell guilty afterwards! Beta carotene is a substance that is converted to Vitamin A in the human body. This vitamin helps transfer fat to energy. A 1/2 cup serving of cooked carrots contains four times the recommended daily intake of Vitamin A. Beta carotene is also a powerful antioxidant effective in fighting against some forms of cancer.

Carrots are loaded with Vitamin A. Vitamin A keeps skin and mucous membranes healthy. Mucous membranes form the inner lining of the body such as in the nasal passages, mouth, throat, eyes, ears, lungs, and intestinal tract. In essence, Vitamin A refreshes the functions of the human senses. Carrots also have a role in Cancer prevention. And last but not least I've never seen horses or rabbits wearing glasses. LOL

It is a myth that was started by the British Royal Air Force during WWII. The British just invented the radar and they did not want the Germans to find out about it, so when the British press asked about the success of the RAF they responded that the pilots ate a lot of carrots for better vision.

First, when it comes to your eyes, Popeye trumps Bugs Bunny. Although carrots are good for your eyes, they're not as powerful as spinach. Research shows that more protective benefits come from the lutein found in spinach than the beta carotene found in carrots. That's what's up, doc

True, they contain a lot of Vit. A, and that makes them good for your vision, but so do a lot of other yellow and orange vegetables. I think mothers found out about the vitamin A thing and use it to get the kids to eat their vegetables. Mom used to say, "eat the vegetables, there are kids starving in Africa who would love to have your vegetables, and you are wasting them." To myself I'd think, then give them to the starving kids, I don't want them. No, seriously, I love fresh cooked carrots, but not canned ones.
