No I don't think they should keep raising the taxes on cigarettes and yes I think it is discrimination. I think they should try and stop the sale of alcohol it is more deadly than cigarettes. No I don't smoke but I did years ago but I still root for those that do. If they want to smoke ok. It does make me mad when they do pick on the smokers. And nothing is ever said about the drinkers that get behind the wheels of a car and choose to drive and maybe kill someone. A drunk driver can kill you faster than a cigarette smoker can.

Im not a smoker. I say tax the hell out cigarettes. They are horrible for you and maybe the taxes will deter people from picking up the habit. Smoking isnt like a normal bad habit that can only affect one person's health. Smoking is determental to anyone who happens to be inthe same room as the smoker. I dont want lung cancer (I watched my grandfather die of it) so I stay away from cigarettes. Why should my lungs be damaged because you are trying to give yourself cancer?

Yes, it is discrimination, but for good reasons. Smoking causes people to die, therefore, by raising taxes on cigarettes, the government tries to save people from dying.

Why not taxing cigarettes, people who are addicted to it will not quit if the government taxes more. The raise in tax will not get too many criticism because cigarettes is harmful to our body. Most people will support it. I don't think many people will support taxing more on toilet paper.

it's an old practice called 'sin tax'. It's been around for years on everything from beer, to cigarettes. I'd be more worried about the gasoline tax that each state adds to the price per gallon. It's more than 25% of the price of gas.

only about 20% of the population smokes, states can heavily tax cigarettes and not very many people get mad. washington state made 453 million bucks off the cigarette tax last year and only made those 20% of voters mad. they could do the same thing with fuel and we would still buy it but almost everbody would be outraged.

It's a sin tax. They do it on a lot of things like liquor. But if you would quit such a nasty habit, you wouldn't have to pay that tax. Enough people quit, they will just transfer that tax to something else. It's all about the money.
