As for the scholarship applications, its good to start over the summer of your senior year because you will want to apply for as many as possible over your senior year and might not have the time to write the essays. I wish I had, because I rushed through writing my essays and didn't get a single scholarship! Each one is different, with deadlines throughout the year, so keep track. Each college is different with applications too, so find out the deadlines of the ones you want to apply to so you know ahead of time. But usually, the earliest they will accept applications for the next year is September or October. The school I'm attending this fall took applications pretty much all year, and I filled my application out in Septemberand got in in October. Good luck, I hope everything goes well!

Its great that you want to get scholarships right away. Every scholarship has its owns rule and regulations in regards to who can apply and when, so it totally depends on which one you are applying for.
Furthermore College Apps go out around late November and are processed and you will know your answer some time in April. I recommend that during this break you work on your personal statement, especially if you already have a career goal in mind. I recommend writing a personal statement that demonstrates how hard you work in school and write about your life experiences that make you a better person, perhaps even a more capable person therefore a better candidate for college. I recommend that you also check out the websites below and talk to a career counselor at your career center soon as possible for more pointers.

if you've taken the SAT, or ACT apply now. since the forms are electronic and fillable, knock out the application and keep it on file. look for the submission deadlines and email the registrar of every school you want to attend. the admissions office and/or counselors can also steer you towards scholarship opportunities depending on your demographic and desired major (math, nursing, etc). the more you front end load, the more options you'll have... don't forget about rotc. you can take a full scholarship that's worth about $250,000. if you think it sucks, you can bale after the first year and you owe nothing. you get a free year. yes that's true. however, it's a pretty sweet deal if you're smart enough to keep your grades up and get a free ride.

Look at the common application on the web - it will tell you the early admission deadline. I suggest you get it done by/before then.
Well prepared high schoolers start filling out scholarship stuff in the Junior year, so start on the asap.

Most wait until their Junior year, however, the FAFSA can and should be filled after taking the PSAT. Many students who want to excel take this their sophomore year.
