Hi, here's your professional guitarist answer. You may not like it ! Do not quit your lessons, keep them going. That's the best answer...but of course, ppl quit for a lot of reasons. If it's money, just get the lessons going again as soon as you can. If it's not money, then get back there, and keep at it. Don't give it up because of any other reason than no money. You have to keep at it, keep studying, keep practicing.
There is so much more to learn. You show that you need a lot more study by your questions. What should you learn? You need to study everything you mentioned and more. Scales, yes! Chords more! Reading music - more! Whatever you did in the lessons, repeat that, and then repeat it again. Read the book you had from cover to cover. Practice everything in it over and over. Be skeptical about the endless books, tabs , guitar sites and so on that are out there. Everyone is selling something about the guitar since is a massively popular instrument. Most of it ranges from the blind leading the blind, to mediocre explanations of music and technique.
Above all, take your time, don't rush, be patient with yourself, and never give up.
And get back to those lessons as soon as you can.

Don't pay this guy a penny if he's not getting you anywhere, that's a waste of your money and your time. He may be a nice guy, but it doesn't mean he can't try to put in some effort to get you somewhere, using a guitar for bass lessons was the biggest mistake, I would have said goodbye after seeing that. I know you don't want to hurt his feeling, but you have to look out for you, you're the one getting the lessons and you want to learn it, so again, before wasting anymore of your time and money, ditch this guy and find a suitable teacher.

That's not enough.....
Hang out at your local guitar center....hook up with the guys that sell guitars as they all know how to play well....ask them if they can help you....Most times they will.
