Yes, people lived about 30 to 40 years in those times. The emperor at least had a good time while he could. Besides, not all of them were assasinated. August Caesar, Tiberius, Vespasian, Titus, Nerva, Trajanus, Adrianus, Antonino Pius and Marcus Aurelius died of natural causes

While some emperors apparently enjoyed the power, many of them may not have considered it 'fun' at all. There was more than one case of a general whose men decided to declare him emperor. Once they did that, he really had no choice. The current emperor would consider him dangerous, and have him killed, so the only way to save his life was to overthrow the previous emperor.

The Roman soldiers tried to make popular commanders emperor so often because their emperors were often terrible; they kept hoping, somehow, that the next one would be better, and a good general seemed like he might make a good emperor. He would also owe his soldiers a debt, one he wouldn't normally dare refuse, lest they turn on him.

Probably the only emperors who thought the whole thing was fun were the crazy ones. They had fun, torturing people, having people they didn't like killed, summoning whatever women they wanted to their bed, and generally annoying everybody until someone got so sick of them they had them killed.

It depends on what your goal is. If you want to enjoy life and ignore all the politics, then you will have a great experience as the emperor. If you care much about your citizens, then being an emperor is the worst job you can ever have. You have to deal with bunch of liars around you.

they were godlike in the powers they controlled they sometimes murdered entire families and groups of senators or condemned wellborn romans to the galleys or the mines or the games they could use a bride on her wedding night or kill their brothers and get away with it and some lived long and happy lives such as Claudius or augustus all the trade roads led to rome and the shipping so you had silks and spices and snow and ice in your drinks and slaves to fulfil any desire around the clock

Maybe it was the thrill of the battle, showing how much "better" you are at fighting than everyone else. Plus you have all of the power to do almost anything you want.
