First of, Republicans love to say they are the party of "facts" and that they don't go by their emotions "like the liberals do"...
yet they say and believe things like:
"Terrorists attacked us because we are free"
"The Iraq War has stopped the terrorists from attacking us again"/"We're fighting them over there, instead of over here"/"We haven't been attacked since, have we?"
And every assorted "liberals kill babies, burn flags, live on welfare, etc."... which I do none of...
It just all seems to be emotional blurbs that have no facts behind them... anyone care to share some facts... maybe cite some sources... clear some things up for me...
and if these are common sense... then they should be really easy to back up and cite...

I don't know if they are lying... as much as making large, vague jumps in logic... bringing two ideas together that really only have few ties in reality...
Just because Saddam was a madman killer in the middle east... it doesn't mean he automatically had something to do with 9-11... everyone in the middle east do not work together...
Just because we are free and someone attacked us... it doesn't mean that they attacked us because we are free...

Boob: FACTS.. are what you are missing... I UNDERSTAND YOUR IDEAS... where is the evidence of terrorists in Iraq before we went in there... al-Queda in Iraq started in 2004... after we attacked... and to what degree are the people in Iraq terrorists vs. insurgents... there is a difference... the 9-11 report doesn't paint a picture of Iraq being a factor in 9-11.. there are my facts... where are yours?

thealligator414: I agree with the vast majority of what you said... the only thing I don't get... is that everything I knew about militant islam was focused in basically every other country around Iraq... More in Saudi, more clearly in Iran, more in UAE, more in Syria, more in Egypt.... so it seems we went to the place where it would make the least difference...
And the other thing is... yes, militant islam is bad, but I want to focus on the one group that pulls off the majority of the successful attacks... al-quada... I don't really care about what Hamas is doing, when al-queda is still out there, we can worry about Hamas after we take care of the group that killed 3,000 on U.S. soil...
perhaps that is oversimplifying it though

gcbtrading... that actually does help some... you raise some interesting points... and a few things that I hadn't heard before...
and I didn't so much mean all Republicans, but those that make these statements on a constant basis... sorry I didn't specify...
I'm still not convinced that Osama is focusing on just those countries though... just because he didn't say the U.S., it doesn't mean he won't hit us... just saying...
thanks for taking the time...

I think people on both sides, left and right, spout of ignorant statements with no factual backing. Like "all liberals are baby killers" or "all republicans are rich or bible thumpers." The terms 'liberal' and 'conservative' have negative connotations in and of themselves these days, they are bad words. Some republicans would say "I'm not rich, am not an evangelical christian, and am not an NRA member."
What would you like facts provided for? Anything in particular? The reasons we were attacked by Isalmic Terrorists are far too complex to explain here, although some don't like to admit that. Complex is scary! Radical Islam has been around a long time. And yes, part of their disgust with us is our freedom. When your ideology states that you must follow Islam, strict fundamentalist Islam, you could see how Americans and all of their "evil" freedoms don't fit into their world view. The question you have to ask yourself is, do these Islamo-Fascists pose a threat to your way of life?
In my opinion, both parties have intelligent, passionate, well educated people that disagree on some issues. And each side has some narrow minded, self centered, hateful people who have no time to try to understand the other sides point of view. For them everything is black and white, right or wrong, there's never any gray area. That is not the world we live in. It's easier to spout of the same old bs!
The same holds true for politicians.

Just as you don't do the 3 "liberal stereotypes" you insist Republicans claim ... Neither do Republicans fit into the little mold you want to stuff us in.
You say Republicans claim to be the party of "facts"
Any side of a debate...if they are to have any credibility...will back their argument with facts...in my Republican view..Democrats too are the party of "facts"
...excepting you. I couldn't help but notice your assertions came with no "facts" to back them.
You say Republicans claim to not go by their emotions...I don't think any Republican would deny their response to the horrors of 9-11 was not emotional.
Bin Laden and other Terrorists have time and again have stated that we are infidels and they have an obligation to Allah to kill us. I see how one might construe that to mean - attack because we are free (not to follow their idea of Allah's will)
You said Republicans say "The Iraq War has stopped the terrorists from attacking us again"/"We're fighting them over there, instead of over here"/"We haven't been attacked since, have we?"
How do you expect me to point to "what didn't happen"? There are documented cases where terrorist plots were foiled. They don't come to mind as clearly as those that weren't foiled.
Imagine the vitreol you would spew if the government had averted 9-11 by shooting down those jets. You'd be up in arms wanting proof the planes were going to take out those buildings. I am convinced of all you pinned on Republicans in that statement. Bin Laden himself just said in his latest message which countries are the battleground... Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, and some other that escapes me now...but he conspicuously left out USA as a battleground... there-not-here.
Most but not all Republicans oppose abortion. Some believe with every ounce of their being that a child in the womb is a living baby. That this baby is no less human than a child in a crib. That a mother could walk up to a baby's crib and cut the living baby to pieces, mop it up and pitch it in the trash ... is rather unappealing to some Republicans. (emotional isn't it...sensible too)
Many Republicans regard an attack on the symbol of the United States of America as an attack on the USA itsself. I understand that. However, although I despise those who would desecrate the flag...I believe it's desecration to be a legitimate form of protest.
As for welfare...many Republicans see handouts as part of the problem rather than a solution. Many regard entrepreneurial endeavors ... job creation (in the private sector, not government "jobs") as the best way to spread the money around.
Hope this helps!

"Terrorists attacked us because we are free" - I (and most others) would have to say terrorists attacked because of their extreme religious beliefs, not because we are free (though they do despise this due to the fact they despise all of America's core values, IE freedom).
"The Iraq War has stopped the terrorists from attacking us again"/"We're fighting them over there, instead of over here"/"We haven't been attacked since, have we?" - a) America going over into terrorists territory and causing extreme disruption into their organizations HAS made it much harder for them to be able to plan and carry out another organized attack such as 9/11. b)We ARE fighting them over there and not here... watch the news. c) and we HAVEN'T been attacked since 9/11, have we?
"liberals kill babies, burn flags, live on welfare, etc." - I have never heard any mainstream Republican say this, only the kooky people such as yourself. Also, I have yet to see a large number of Republicans support abortion, this is clearly a Liberal idea.

I wouldn't have used any of the logic you suggest. However I just don't find the liberal agenda very appealing.
•attack American traditions, specifically Christian traditions and the traditional American family
•engage in "get-even" policies that support discrimination when it benefits historically disadvantaged groups
•punish and/or discourage achievement through taxation and fiscal policies
•use the rulings of the Judicial branch of the government as de facto law, irrevocable by anything short of Constitutional amendment or a future court ruling, thus bypassing the legislative process. Roe V. Wade is the most frequently cited example of "judicial activism".
•weaken the military strength and morale of the country by vilifying the practice of armed combat and hesitating to use force when it appears necessary
•use regulatory bodies over private enterprise to accomplish social goals and restrict competition (government, education, labor)
•establish secular and progressive social policy, including support for gay marriage, abortion, liberal drug policy, euthanasia and prostitution legalization.
•implement a foreign policy supporting the protection of human rights and multiculturalism through activism and social intervention.

I hate to sound like I am making a generalisation here, but in my experience, the Republican agenda relies on it's base being, undereducated, low income, and isolationist. When they rely on such things, it does not lay the groundwork for things like discussion and research, therefore they can pass any sort of mindless illogical agenda and most of their constituents will support it simply for the facts that they did'nt know any better and did'nt realise it was their job to speak out that somthing did'nt seem right. To most republicans, they feel that it is better to have your government dictate how it's gonna be and your American right to participate in political dialogue is basically thrown out the window. To republicans, to exercise your American right to speak out against government wrongdoing is unpatriotic somehow so therefore they refrain from it and chastise anyone who does so.

Lying is always the favorite tool of those who wish to hide the truth.
When they realize they are no longer misleading the majority of Americans they come up with desperate new slogans and catch-phrases like:
Liberal=Commie
Gay Lovers
Anti-American
Baby Killers.
And so on.
The lies, distortions and attacks always rise in direct proportion to the fear of losing the power base.
