I tried to respond to your e-mail, but your address isn't confirmed, so it wouldn't go through.

Here is my answer"

"I would love to help you out, but unfortunately, I know nothing about traveling by train or plane. I've only done this out of country and never as my main mode of transportation.

Hopefully someone will be able to help you on answers. But from me, all I can suggest is looking up info with Greyhound and maybe Amtrak, but other than that I really don't know what to tell you.

Sorry I can't help."

By train, you have to take Amtrak Cardinal Route from Chicago to Charlottesville (Va.) then change to the Crescent Route to get to Greenville. Alternatively, you can take the Capitol Limited Route to Washington (DC) then change to the Crescent Route to Greenville. The trip takes about 28 hours on the train, so you have to add to that connecting time at Charlottesville or Washington.

By Greyhound bus, the whole trip (including connecting time) takes 20-22 hours. You take the bus from Chicago to Atlanta (Ga.) then transfer there to get to Greenville.
