I learned a lesson early on..I told my boss I was pregnant and he replaced me and booted me out to a job I hated so the new girl could learn my job. He was convinced I would quit any day and he wanted to be prepared. I worked up until delivery, 6 mos in a job I hated.
don't tell them where you are going....dentist, emergency whatever you think......ps don;t tell co-workers either!

I'm also stuck on a similar question. I was hired for a new job and I started three weeks ago. Another place that I put my resume in about two months ago just recently called me with a job offer. Now I don't know how I should put my two weeks notice in because I just started the job. The place that called me about my resume hired me on the spot and they have a much better pay rate the only problem I'm having is how I should go about putting my two weeks notice in at my present job whenever I JUST started there?

I certainly wouldn't tell them that I was looking for another job or going for a job interview. I would just take off work early or take the whole day off. if you get the other job, then you can give them a two week notice, so that you would be leaving on good terms.

telling your current boss you are interviewing for a new job is generally not a good idea. Be creative with scheduling, interview during lunch, or stay at your desk through the noon hour and take your lunch at the end of the day and leave an hour early. ask the new company if they can be flexible during their interview hours, most people realize that it's tough to schedule and will be flexible.
good luck

I agree. You don't tell them until you have another offer on the table. As for as the time off, you are just going to have to try and schedule the interview around your work time or during your lunch hour.

You don't really have to tell them you are interviewing, simple ask if it would be possible to take a couple of hours off for personal reasons.

Don't say a word until you get the new job. Then give two weeks notice.

You don't tell them you're going for the interview... you tell them when you have secured the job and put in your resignation...

You don't. It ain't their business. But if you land a better job, be courteous and provide enough lead time to get a replacement for you. They may just let ya go.
