Depends where you are. In the some parts of the United States of Barking and in parts of Australia, it's probably against the law for everyone over the age of three NOT to kill something, before 10.00 a.m., each day.
In the UK, Republic of Ireland and Canada, you need to have a firearms certificate if you OWN a weapon.
There are restrictions on where anyone, whether the owner or not, can use the gun.
I assume that there are arrangements for people to "borrow" weapons, if they go clay pigeon shooting, for instance. However, there still has to be a licence for each gun.

No. You cannot legally have the gun at all unless it is licenced to you.
If you do legally own the gun and have a proper licence then you need to check on the use of the land.
If you have a smallholding you can use a shotgun for pest control, but not for game or sport shooting unless the land has a provision for it.

i think you need a permit not a certificate? If you brought the gun legally, then you have to have a permit anyway....i think!
If you mean can you shoot on private land with a borrowed gun...i cant see a problem with that-so long as who ever your shooting can run fast!!

First off, for the confused folks from the US who are reading this, you are in the UK where shotgun certificates are issued.
The person who owns the shotgun and who buys ammunition for one is required to have the certificate, but not to just shoot it.
"You need a shotgun certificate to purchase or acquire shotguns or purchase cartridges
A shotgun certificate is not required to have cartridges in your possession"

Yes, you cannot actually shoot a shotgun certificate. You probably need a shotgun or other other weapon.

I can better advise you only in simple terms of LIFE, life of anybody let be Animals,Birds,Human being or any living creature which is createdby god, sit in for meditation and think that you want to kill for which you have not created, and if you mind and conscience permits you go ahead don't ask anybody whether you should have licences or not or whether it is in your own private land, you seek the GOD's permission and licences and do whatever you like, if we cannot give life to other we should too not kill anybody.

what do you mean by certificate? A Gun owners permit? If so you need one for every gun you own it is call a FOID card and the gun must be registered to you. Also if it is private property (someone else's) you need their permission.
