Prior to taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen, I was on antibiotics and using Retin A daily for my acne problems. I have now been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for almost a year without any serious complications (other than the first month adjustment period) and would like to know what's the longest period of time I can take Ortho Tri-Cyclen without acquiring any permanent side effects? I want to have children some day. Someone who is taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen please help?

I'm a nurse practitioner in women's health. I've seen women take birth control pills (including Ortho Tri-Cyclen) for as much as 15 years, and then get pregnant. Birth control pills don't prevent future fertility, but there are way too many factors that can play a part of this answer. Get back to your health care provider and ask this question!

I took it for about 6 yrs. I got pg about 7 months after stopping it. I have a very healthy boy!

After having my son I took a different pill only to save $ and take a generic one. I went off of that last March and got pg in July. I have 3 1/2 month old twins! NOT saying their is a correlation but saying taking the pill and future pregnancies has not effected me at all!

If I didn't mind a co-pay again I would go back on the pill (we are DONE having children) BUT I don't want a monthly co-pay. I chose and IUD this time. So I liked the pill enough to go back on it again and if it were free...I would again!!!! LOL

My aunt took it for 5+ years when she & her husband decided they wanted another child. It took her a year before she became pregnant. So stop taking the pill at least one year before you plan to have a baby. that doesn't mean it will take that long but who knows for sure.
