Based on the fact that you are 12 years of age, 4' 9", and weigh 85 pounds, you have the body mass index (bmi) of about 18.4 which is a healthy weight for you. If you were at 15 bmi, you would be underweight, or at 22 bmi, you would be overweight.

Eat a balanced diet and keep active like you are and you'll be fine. As far as when you pinch your arm, you probably are pinching a mixture between muscle, skin, and fat, it's all there in that spot.

If your doctor says it's okay, then you're fine. If not, then you're underweight. I'm guessing you're young. If you are going through puberty, you could be about to grow a bit and gain some weight. it also depends on your family. Is most of your family thin like you are?

My mother, aunt and sister are like you. Well, my mom was until she had kids. My sister is pretty athletic, and when she ran track she got so she looked pretty underweight, but was actually just barely underweight. But not like she looked way too thin. She always looked healthy. I mean if you said the number of pounds she looked like, it would be pretty underweight. She was all muscle as well (still pretty much the same). So it is probably a family trait. Some ppl, like my aunt are like that way up into their late 40s. She only changed when she hit menopause.

If your doctor does want you to gain weight, I'd suggest eating proteins. My friend's do wanted her to gain weight so he had her eat peanut butter. Also fish and pretty much any nut. These are all very healthy fats. And good for gaining muscle.

You're just a petite person. I'm 4'11" and go between 90 and 95. You can go to a doctor, dietitian or nutritionist and find out if you need to put on any weight and the right way to go about doing that. But if you work out, aren't starving yourself, and eat healthy you're fine.
Don't listen to internet BMI calculators, though. It's much better to go to a doctor to find out that type of thing ... Because there is much more than typing a height and weight onto a computer to find out if you are healthy or not.

And as for people saying you shouldn't workout, don't listen. There are many safe workouts for people of any age.
In fact, more children in the United States should be working out. It's the best thing for you, inside and out.

You know, despite what everyone says, some people just have a petite build. As long as you're healthy (I'm guessing you are since you work out) and you eat, I see no problem with you being 4' 9" and weighing in at 85 lbs.

You are considered underweight. You should cut back on the working out and try to eat a little more. Being underweight just isn't healthy.

You are petite! That is nice. You are 12. You may grow some more. don't worry about it. It is muscle for sure.
