Hi, I would buy them from Mcmurry online. I bought mine full grown and many just flew away. They seem to say "buckwheat" as their sound. I could not house them easily but they would come for food...except the ones that flew away. They are like gentle guard dogs and will let you know there is someone or something around. I think they are worth having and getting day old old makes it easy to imprint where and who they belong to. They also eat lots of bugs:)

My mom has some. They are truly dumb, but they are a good alarm system. One of the reasons that they look up is that they are prey to turkey vulchers, hawks and owls. If you release a small flock, many of them will fly away. They will show up from time to time. They are a great alarm and really, really keep the bug population down. Also, they like to look at their reflection so if you place a mirror or window on the ground you will catch them looking at themselves! Many of the breeders will ship them via the postal service and you can order them online.

You have a "Market Bulletin" for your area. I have looked at it before. It is free in the 'net, and you can find local sources. If you get grown Guineas, you need to keep them shut up for a couple of weeks, so they will adjust to their new home. Buying from hatcheries, you have to get large quantities, which may be more than you want! They are great bug eaters and watch dogs!

More stupid than a fence post - but are a GREAT alarm system.
They make noise at the slightest thing. Be prepared to chase them into their barn in a storm. They'll drown staring at the sky trying to figure out what that wet stuff is falling on them!

(no idea where to get them in Georgia, though)

i like these guys becuase they are good bug eatters. i had the lavender ones. my neighbor thought they sounded like a bed-spring-mattrice!!! i wouldn't have thought that since i grew up with them ....
i had a friend who ordered eggs. he incubated them. i think out of the 50 eggs he ordered 30hatched. he has budgies to macaws and guineas to argus pheasants. he penned them up for a few months like the post above suggests and now they roam freely on his three acre aviary.
if you get adult birds another idea is to clip their wings and keep them in a small area. that way they don't fly away and get used to their new area. this worked with the peacocks and reeve's pheasants i have had in the past.
another idea, though i've never had to do this to a bird, but there's a process called "pinion" or "pinioning" the bird. this is usually done to waterfowl, pheasants, etc. where the 'thumb' on the birds wing is clipped, usually when they are youngsters. this way they don't grow those first 5 or so primary feathers to enable them to fly off ...
don't know, just thought i'd throw those ideas out there. maybe someone else has better suggestions?!?!?! :)

good luck with your birds :)
