It's my understanding that it's not actually the DELIVERY of the baby that causes bladder issues, but carrying the baby for nine months. The baby pushes down on the bladder while in the womb and causes the bladder to be flattened slightly. This changes the shape, the amount of fluid it can hold, making you have to go more often. A friend of mine had a hysterectomy a few years back and while the docter was "in the area", he rebuilt her bladder to fix the problem. I'd double check with the doctor, since they're giving you drugs for it, but as for whether delivering a baby causes problems, I don't think that's it.

Yeah you should take the detrol. When you push out a baby, it puts a lot of damage on the bladder. I still pee when I laugh, cough or sneeze and my baby is almost 3. It is very common for women. Give it time.

Clarify your diagnosis with your doctor. If they gave you penicillin, chances are they suspect a urinary tract infection or a bladder infection (both of which increase urinary urges). It could be from the childbirth, most likely fecal matter entering the urinary tract during that time. But that can also happen during sex, wiping the wrong way, wearing thongs, and many other causes. More likely, being pregnant itself caused your bladder to weaken and the muscles that would normally be able to stop the flow of urine to weaken. Do Kegel exercises (if you don't know how, look it up online).
