I want them to breed, I have 2 bunnies, but I need help with this first! I put them together for the first time the other day. They basically both humped each other, then didn't get along. What do you think? Should I get a nest box too?

well with any animals, you have to put them on their backs and look at their genitals. If I remember right before it's obvious which is which, you can push down in the right spot and you will be able to tell if it's a boy, if you know what I mean. Something will pop up, lol. The pet store or a local rancher might be able to help a bit more with that. If it's a female you can usually blow the fur away and see it is a female.

Once you get it established that you have both a male and a female, they need a nest box that they can put fur and bedding in. They have to make it themselves, so you can put the bedding in the cage, just let them bring it into the box. Once you are sure she is pregnant, you have to separate the bunnies and put the female somewhere secluded and fairly quiet where she won't be disturbed. Bunnies will eat their young if they feel threatened, and do this quite often so I've heard. Any questions you should contact your local pet store or aniaml shelter for help.

Good luck =)

If you have to ask then you shouldnt be breeding rabbits period.

If you turn the rabbits over and they have testes then its a male, you wont be able to miss them. Also it sounds like both are either male or female from the way you described. Hopefully they are not male and female, you obviously dont need to be breeding rabbits if you cant even tell their gender.

Also to those who commented about the male being on top, not always, some dominate females (does)will ride the males(bucks).

If you look at their back ends and pull something apart (that's what my dad always did to check), I think that works? I just always took my dad's word that Ellie was a girl. Maybe the bunnies just don't like eachother, and feel that the forced breeding situation is just too much to ask of them :o).
