I really could use your advise on how I can cope with Tinnitus. The ringing is so loud it is making me crazy. I HAVE to sleep with a box fan running on high, and that doesn't drown out the ringing... Please somebody, anybody, if you have any ideas, let me know. I can't stand this much longer.........................

I have had tinnitus as long as I can remember which is over 40 years now...
My doctor told me I was hearing the blood rushing through my head in the veins...
Well great...
It is miserable to say the least...
I have to sleep with a fan on and leave the TV on cause I can't stand dead silence...

I don't know what to do for it because I have read up on it on the internet and in books and it seems there is no cure...
If I try ear plugs it makes it louder...

My husband snores and I can't stand that either and he tells me to wear ear plugs and I can't because the ear plugs make the tinnitus louder...

I try to not pay attention to it and have other sounds going in my room in order to fall asleep...
Use a fan, TV, radio, or buy you one of those things called a white noise machine that you can listen to things like a rain storm or wind blowing or a train off in the distance...
I use to have one myself, but oddly enough I couldn't stand the repetition of the sounds...LOL...
I just put up with it and sometimes I wish I was deaf...

I also have found some relief with sleeping on my side and having one ear covered by a pillow...
I feel for you dear...
I am so sorry...

As summergirl noted, the cause determines whether or not there is a remedy. If it is brought about by factors such as medication, the remedy is to discontinue the medication or other aggravating factor. If it is due to physiological damage (due to long-term and/or severe decibel exposure), there is no remedy. I have tinnitus, but it is mild--one thing I have noted is that it is much worse when I am tired.

Quit listening to loud music, start wearing earplugs if you can't avoid it. Try to stop it from getting worse.

Also...when I was younger the doctors thought I had tinninitus, but it was really because I could hear electricity in televisions and from lights. It drove me crazy, but eventually I outgrew it.

The blood-pressure thing is a good idea, or just talk to your doctor about it in general to see if you have some other ear problem.

Go to your doctor and tell him/her. There are numerous reasons as to why you might have it. They range from medications to loud noises etc. I WOULD PUT IN YOUR WEB BROWSER SECTION SEARCH THE WEB FOR TINNITUS.

Have your blood pressure checked. Even young can have high blood pressure. And it can cause ringing in the ears.
