You may have started with too strenuous a routine. A lot of people do it. Seems OK at the time, but you regret it later. It's important to know your limits before starting a workout regimen. You want to go with something you know you'll be able to keep up. Try a lighter workout schedule when you're feeling better. Hope that helps.

What kind of work, heavy lifting, sitting all day? If your lifting use your legs bend your knees and make sure its not too heavy. If sitting is your work station set up for someone of your height, leg length. Instead of stealing someones lunch, try walking and or strecthing on your breaks. Also you may not be drinking enough water, your kidneys are in your back. Deffinetelly don't take aspirn it can cause bleeding ulcers.

Probably your spouse makes lousy lunches for you, and you have been unemployeed so long that you are not use to working and over done it by lifting a stapler or notebook. Try this: make your own lunch, or steal a co-workers lunch and for the back pain, take two aspirin and call me in the morning....(just joking..you can take a joke I hope)
