Practice orienting yourself N/S/E/W...
When people tell you to turn left...say, "Left is which way? East? West?"...get to know how the streets around your house run

learn to read a map starting with the are you live in and it's VERY important to learn where North South East and West are. A funny thing ...my best friend thinks that north is whatever direction he is heading in and south would be always behind him. See the problem there? He is always going north then by his definition and can never go south since it's always behind him.

worse case scenario you always have Onstar and whatever other GPS services are out there.

just keep getting lost.. eventually it will get sooo annoying that you will force yourself to pay more attention to the details of map reading :) or get a compass to help you out.. have a general idea of what direction you should be going..
I am sure constant lateness for appointments and family gatherings is driving others nearly as crazy as you probably are..
Find an easier way to get where you are going by printing out directions off of websites like mapquest or yahoo maps.. they are both very simple to use and easy to understand for both long and short trips.
