You can go to hgtv.com and they have great patterns that you just print out and the best part is that they are free

Crochet Pattern Central has the most free patterns that are organized it is the best for quick information and patterns.

Berroco also has some great free patterns.

Craftster is also a source to visit, just use the search feature. Use "crochet bag" or purse...

Counterfeit Crochet is great too.

I am not sure about finding patterns online, however, have you tried a bookstore or a library? If you find a book at the library with a pattern you like, you can check out the book or photocopy the pattern and instructions.

Just an idea.

www.lionbrand.com is a good site. you have to register but its free. this one is good also http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/ most yarn companies have web sites with free patterns too. good luck.
