ok, so I have gotten my friends gift certificates before. But now I am wondering what the point is. It is exactly the same as money, but just in a little card from that certain store. I always got them just to show my friend that I knew and cared what her favorite store was. Does these cards benefit the store in any way? (i dont know how to categorize this) : D

Gift certificates are a good way to gift a person when you're not sure what to give them. From the store's perspective, gift certificates (cards, etc.) are a way to make sure you money will return to the store!

The point of the Gift Certificate is that store just made money on seeling a piece of paper to you. Surveys show that great percentage of Gift Certificates sold is never redeemed. For you it is a nice gesture. For your friend a nice gift. For the store, easy money. That's how Spa Sydell grew so big. On Gift Certificates. It is a money maker!

the point is that You're FORCING them to shop at that one store you picked (which isn't really nice)
just give them a card with the cash inside.. they might rather spend the money on food or something at a privately owned shop, or whatever.

I love gift cards for my friends who have everything and are hard to shop for. they are better than cash cause you know they will get something for them and not use it for gas or whatever... very convenient if you are to busy to go shopping too :)
